Young Athletes:

The Art and Science of Play

Philosophy

We believe that youth sports are a family affair. We take a systemic approach to help the whole family achieve its best mind-set and processes for communication and support. Again and again, we have observed that when families work well together, young athletes unlock their potential.

We begin with a family session to build collaboration and gain a deeper understanding of the dynamics that may influence performance. This foundation allows us to tailor our work to the unique needs of each young performer. In subsequent one-on-one sessions with the athlete, we provide practical tools and strategies to help them develop resilience, confidence, and the skills to thrive—in their sport, their craft, and beyond.

What’s your game?

For over 20 years we have had the opportunity to work with young athletes participating in a wide variety of sports. This helps us understand many of the nuances and challenges they might face. Some of those sports include:

Tennis, Baseball, Running/Track and Field, Fencing, Soccer, Basketball, Hockey, Gymnastics, Golf, Figure Skating, Equestrian…

Parent support
and training

In recent years, considerable attention has been given to better understanding and identifying the role that parents play in their children’s athletic experience and performance.

At Sport & Performance Psychology of New York, we understand that most parents have had limited training in sports parenting. In order to respond to these concerns, we educate parents about how they can help and enhance their child’s sports experience. We give parents some of these tools to help their children perform to their potential…

  • Learn effective ways to support your child

  • Understanding your role and accept the boundaries

  • Understanding the coach’s role

  • How to be on the side of both your child and the coach
